Design Philosophy
"And with the integral character of extending vistas gained by marrying buildings with ground levels, or blending them with slopes and gardens; yes, it is in this new sense of earth as a great human good that we will move forward in the building of our new homes."
Frank Lloyd-Wright (circa 1930)
As the visionary architect so clearly set the "environmental" standards of building design, we engage 'Sanctum' or the creation of sanctuary as the basis of our design philosophy - to develop buildings that create opportunity for an improved living comfort, and to nurture harmony between natural and built environments. Our buildings are designed to create a feeling of retreat and privacy and interact appropriately with the outdoor environment.
Sanctum will uphold this philosophy by engaging a developed analysis of the building site in terms of local context, climate, topography and outlook. This detailed appraisal allows us to design homes which capitalize on naturally available heating and cooling processes to maximize occupant comfort levels and respond visually and physically to local conditions.
Sustainability
Sanctum Design is thoroughly committed to environmentally sustainable design (ESD) to ensure that we reduce the harmful effects of construction processes on our local and global environment.
By using energy efficient design we can significantly reduce heating and cooling bills and the associated CO2 output from excessive energy use, and with the health and future of future generations paramount, we actively promote and employ the use of certified, sustainable materials and alternative energy resources.
Naturally, all our homes exceed the minimum requirements under the BASIX (building sustainability) code, and our consultants can provide expert advice for further recycling, landscaping and resource conservation methods to help reduce your impact on the environment.
